Senior Quantity Surveyor (Freelance)

The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a major infrastructure programme in Scotland on a freelance basis. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key commercial role on a complex engineering project, working within a collaborative project team while taking ownership of contractual and commercial matters.
This position requires a strong understanding of the FIDIC suite of contracts, with a particular emphasis on proactive contract administration, variation management and minimising commercial risk before issues develop into formal claims or disputes.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer contracts in accordance with FIDIC principles and contractual obligations.
- Manage and assess variations, ensuring all changes are accurately valued, recorded and agreed.
- Proactively identify commercial risks and resolve issues before they escalate into claims or disputes.
- Maintain comprehensive records, contractual notices and supporting documentation.
- Monitor project costs, forecasts and commercial performance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Work closely with project managers, engineers and client representatives to resolve commercial matters efficiently.
- Ensure all contractual communications are issued within required timescales.
- Support negotiations relating to variations, compensation events and commercial settlements.
- Maintain exceptional attention to detail across all commercial documentation and reporting.
- Provide commercial advice to support project delivery while protecting contractual entitlement.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- Extensive experience working as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor on major infrastructure or engineering projects.
- Strong working knowledge of FIDIC contracts, with proven experience administering them throughout project delivery.
- Demonstrable experience managing variations, contractual notices and commercial risk.
- A proactive approach to preventing claims and disputes through effective contract management.
- Excellent commercial awareness and strong analytical skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail with excellent record-keeping and documentation practices.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
