This is a permanent Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT) post within a specialist Multi-Academy Trust, providing a dedicated SaLT service across schools.
The post holder will deliver high-quality clinical provision supporting children and young people with a range of complex communication needs, and will contribute to the ongoing development of effective communication pathways across the organisation in collaboration with school staff and wider professionals.
This is a clinical role with service development input, not a management or line management position.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Practice
- Deliver a specialist Speech and Language Therapy service across multiple education settings
- Assess, diagnose, and implement intervention for children and young people with complex communication needs
- Work with a range of presentations including:
- Learning disabilities
- Autism
- SEMH
- PMLD
- Physical and complex needs
- Develop SMART targets and use appropriate outcome measures to evaluate progress
- Use evidence-based assessment and intervention approaches tailored to individual needs
Service Delivery & Development
- Contribute to the development and improvement of SaLT pathways across the Trust
- Select and implement appropriate communication assessment tools
- Support the embedding of communication-friendly environments within schools
- Contribute to clinical audits and service evaluation processes
- Ensure practice is aligned with current legislation, guidance, and best practice
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with teaching staff, SEN teams, and wider multidisciplinary professionals
- Provide guidance and advice to school staff to support communication development
- Work collaboratively with parents/carers to support communication goals at home
- Contribute to EHCP reviews and multi-agency planning meetings
- Produce high-quality written reports for reviews and statutory processes
Training & Support
- Deliver training and guidance to school staff across the Trust
- Share specialist SaLT knowledge to upskill staff in communication support strategies
Professional Practice & Compliance
- Work autonomously and manage a complex caseload across settings
- Maintain accurate records in line with GDPR and organisational policies
- Adhere to safeguarding, health and safety, and equality policies
- Engage in CPD and performance development processes
Person SpecificationEssential
- Degree/diploma in Speech and Language Therapy
- HCPC registration and membership of RCSLT (or equivalent professional body)
- Minimum 4 years post-qualification experience
- At least 2 years’ experience working with children/young people with complex needs
- Experience managing a varied and complex clinical caseload independently
- Strong knowledge of SaLT assessment tools, interventions, and outcome measures
- Experience working with SEND populations (e.g. ASD, SEMH, LD, PMLD)
- Excellent report writing and communication skills
- Strong IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Desirable
- Experience working in specialist education settings or multi-site provision
- Experience contributing to service development or pathway design
- Experience using a wide range of outcome measures in clinical evaluation
- Experience working within multidisciplinary teams in complex environments
Additional Information
- The role is primarily school-based, with travel across Trust sites required
- Usual working hours are typically 8:00am–4:00pm (3:30pm Friday finish)
- Some administrative and planning work may be completed flexibly or from central office space when required
- Start date: ASAP or September start preferred
