The Role

At Cumming Group, you will work on some exciting construction projects across a variety of real estate sectors, in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where your success is measured by the impact you make.

As an Associate Director, you will provide expert-level cost and project management consultancy and project support for projects across various stages, from concept design to construction completion. You will partner with a diverse set of clients and internal teams to deliver exceptional value, acting as a trusted advisor and helping to ensure successful project outcomes.

Experience of business development, work winning, client retention, and having in-depth pre-existing strong client relationships is essential for the role. You will be required to support a Senior Director in both delivering, securing and owning new clients and commissions. A demonstrated track record of developing and maintaining business growth is key.

Key Responsibilities

  • Business development, business planning and work winning.
  • Preparing and leading on bids, presentations and interviews.
  • Financial planning and forecasting of fees and monitoring/measuring forecast versus actual turnover.
  • Prepare budget estimates, cost plans and client reports.
  • Provide risk and value management, including facilitation of workshops and project risk registers.
  • Contract administration including preparation of valuations, forecasts, cost reports and attendance at project meetings.
  • Deliver all work outputs in an accurate and timely manner to a high standard of quality.
  • Manage the delivery of work through proactive involvement where appropriate and through performance management of personnel to ensure work is completed in a timely manner to a high-quality standard.
  • Use of the full range of Project Management processes.
  • Experience of drafting and maintaining programmes using Microsoft Project/P6 and undertaking review analysis of programme activities. (NEC programme experience is beneficial).
  • Proactive day to day responsibility for various sized projects and demonstrate the ability to take on tasks with minimal supervision and supporting larger projects and programmes of work.
  • Prepare and evaluate tenders, contractor/consultant selection and contract documentation.
  • Contract administration for relevant contract provisions, monthly reporting and chairing project meetings.
  • Ensure service delivery is in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Practice, particularly Health and Safety and Quality Assurance.
  • Ensure compliance with the client’s corporate governance procedures where applicable.
  • Work to deadlines set by the Senior Director.
  • Ensure filing of project correspondence in accordance with requirements.
  • Develop our business; networking and developing client relationships.
  • Ensure that change control processes for the services we provide are effectively managed.
  • Support the implementation of strategic initiatives at service and sector level.
  • Provide leadership to the staff, where required. Resolve conflicts of priorities and personalities relating to work with the appropriate Director or Associate Director.
  • Mentor and coach team members, ensuring that staff and new starters are developed to support the successful growth of the Practice and development of their career.
  • Monitor project fees and ensure resource and time inputs are in line with approved budgets.
  • Provide overall leadership to the Project Management team including project and service delivery, processes, development etc.
  • Strengthen our service delivery capability and promote knowledge capture, sharing and innovation.
  • Support risk and value management, including facilitation of workshops and project risk registers.
  • Undertake service delivery in accordance with the policies and procedures of the business, particularly Health & Safety and Quality Assurance.
  • Undertake service in compliance with client’s corporate governance procedures where applicable.
  • Achieve all objectives as required by the annual performance review process.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuing professional development and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders to ensure that all parties are kept informed on all relevant matters impacting and influencing projects.
  • Provide advice on procurement and contracts.
  • Responsibility for, and must be committed to promoting, protecting, developing and enabling the business and your colleagues, within the parameter of your job role.
  • Contribute towards bid and tender preparation and business development.
  • Develop and manage Project Programmes and obtain the buy-in of all stakeholders.
  • Drive project performance, service delivery and technical and commercial outcomes and undertaking reviews, ensuring client delivery is above expectation.

Qualifications

  • Preferably degree qualified: construction, cost or project management, engineering, quantity surveying or other RICS accredited degree.
  • MRICS / other equivalent qualification or experience.
  • 8–10+ years’ experience.
  • Experience acting as an Associate Director preferred.
  • Proven experience in the Real Estate sector.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction industry technical matters.
  • Extensive experience of industry standard forms of contract, typically JCT and NEC.
  • Excellent pre and post contract technical cost and project management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with both client and staff.
  • Strong analytical skills, sound judgement and an aptitude for forward planning.
  • Energetic and motivated with natural drive and an innovative flair, resourcefulness and ability to adapt to change.
  • An ability to think clearly and make reasoned decisions, explaining the logic employed.
  • Good experience of managing people and delivering multiple or complex projects.
