Workshops Manager

(Mechanical, Hydraulic, Electrical, Welding and Fabrication)

Permanent Contract

Full-time hours of 40 per week

Location is Bridge of Don, Aberdeen

The main purpose of the role govern and develop best-in-class workshops activities to maximise performance, service delivery and contribution towards the company’s operating strategy.

Main responsibilities

·        Govern and develop workshops practices and infrastructure supported by well-defined processes and procedures

·        Ensure Health and Safety requirements are controlled and monitored regularly

·        Monitor and manage operational and financial performance to ensure allocated targets are achieved or exceeded

·        Conduct regular assessment of workshops practices to verify suitability and full compliance to company procedures and processes, and regulatory agencies rules and regulations

·        Ensure all workshops activities and equipment mandatory inspection, certification and subscriptions are maintained correctly and renewed or adjusted timely

·        Recommend and develop plan to improve people, safety, cost and work delivery performance and implement plans for timely and effective accomplishment

·        Build strong working relationships with engineering and operations teams to work to mutually agreed and beneficial business objectives and offer guidance for specialist workshops areas and activities

·        Actively seek new business opportunities to maximise workshops utilisation and output.

·        Manage optimal performance of assigned people by:

–      monitoring routine performance

–      undertaking periodic appraisal of team members to identify development needs

–      encourage professional development where relevant and offer support for development actions

·        Lead by example and coach employees including those not associated with assigned responsibilities to conduct allocated tasks reflecting the values of the company and compliance towards company practices, and imbed a culture of continuous improvement, quality and high performance

·        Create and publish improvements progress register, performance statistics, monthly operations performance pack plus other reports to Global Head of Supply Chain Services and other stakeholders

HSEQ responsibilities

·        It is mandatory that the incumbent is familiar with the Company’s HSEQ Policy and takes an active role in the compliance and improvement of Sparrows Integrated Management System. The incumbent must report any incidents, near misses, actual or potential problems with products, services or systems to their Line Manager.

·        The incumbent also has legal responsibilities under country-specific health and safety legislation to follow all Company processes and procedures and familiarise themselves with the emergency response arrangements applicable to them. The incumbent is also responsible for the health and safety arrangements of subordinates (if any) and for any persons visiting them while on the Company premises.

Qualifications and experience

·        Engineering degree or equivalent professional engineering qualification

·        Strong experience of managing a fast-paced workshops with good knowledge of fabrication, welding, hydraulics, mechanical, electrical and paint activities and technical expertise or specialisation for one of these activities

·        Strong leadership skills with experience of managing projects

·        Customer oriented capabilities, able to empathize with driver / rider needs

·        Conversant with relevant UK legislation, including Health and Safety at Work Act, LOLER, RIDDOR, PUWER, and environmental legislation.

·        Highly analytical, organized, data driven, and process focused, capable of designing and implementing several projects simultaneously with little supervision

·        Proven ability to build and maintain productive relationships with multiple and diverse stakeholders

·        Excellent communication skills and ability of communicate effectively at different management levels
