Job Description:

TEXO Recruitment are delighted to be recruiting for a Workshop Manager on behalf of one of our clients, a leading engineering business specialising in innovative subsea solutions. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced production or workshop leader to take ownership of a busy manufacturing facility, leading a skilled team responsible for the fabrication, assembly and testing of complex subsea equipment. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards while driving continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Production & Workshop Management

  • Lead and manage all workshop production and construction activities to ensure safe, efficient and timely delivery of products.
  • Plan, schedule and monitor manufacturing activities to achieve project milestones, delivery deadlines and customer expectations.
  • Oversee fabrication, assembly, testing, refurbishment, maintenance and spare parts production.
  • Manage workshop capacity, labour allocation, overtime requirements and subcontractor activities.
  • Ensure accurate management of Bills of Materials (BOMs), routing, work instructions and stock control.
  • Monitor production performance through KPIs and implement corrective actions where required.

Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical guidance across welding, fabrication, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical assembly and polyurethane manufacturing processes.
  • Work closely with Engineering to improve manufacturability, quality and cost efficiency.
  • Ensure technical documentation, drawings, work instructions and BOMs remain accurate and current.
  • Resolve production issues and provide practical engineering solutions.
  • Lead Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives to improve productivity, efficiency and quality.

Project & Customer Support

  • Support project planning by identifying production requirements, risks and resource constraints.
  • Contribute to bid and tender activities by providing manufacturing methodology, labour estimates and production durations.
  • Host customer visits, inspections and Factory Acceptance Tests professionally and effectively.
  • Build positive customer relationships by ensuring high standards of delivery and responsiveness.

Financial & Asset Management

  • Manage departmental budgets including labour, consumables, subcontractors and overtime.
  • Drive cost control through effective planning, waste reduction and resource utilisation.
  • Ensure workshop equipment, lifting gear and tooling are maintained, calibrated and compliant.
  • Participate in capital expenditure planning and investment proposals for workshop improvements.

Essential Qualifications

  • Diploma in Engineering or a relevant technical discipline (or equivalent).
  • Strong engineering background within manufacturing, fabrication or construction.

Desirable Qualifications

  • NEBOSH, IOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
  • Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement or Six Sigma training.
  • Project Management qualification.

Requirements

  • Significant experience leading production or workshop operations within engineering, subsea, offshore, oil & gas or heavy fabrication environments.
  • Proven experience managing teams responsible for manufacturing complex mechanical and hydraulic equipment.
  • Experience delivering continuous improvement and Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
  • Experience managing customer inspections, audits and Factory Acceptance Tests.
  • Previous responsibility for production planning, budgeting and operational performance.
