Operations Manager

Salary: £57,000 – £65,000 + Benefits
About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Operations Manager to join a well-established organisation operating within the waste management and environmental services sector.
Reporting to the General Manager, the successful candidate will take responsibility for the safe, efficient and compliant operation of a busy processing facility, leading a team of employees while driving operational performance, continuous improvement and health & safety standards.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring a proactive individual who can motivate teams, optimise plant performance and deliver operational excellence within a highly regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operation of the site, ensuring safe, efficient and compliant performance.
- Promote and maintain a strong health, safety and environmental culture.
- Lead, develop and mentor operational teams to maximise performance and engagement.
- Monitor and improve operational KPIs including productivity, quality, cost and service.
- Work closely with the maintenance team to maximise plant availability and minimise downtime.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives across the site.
- Ensure compliance with environmental permits, company procedures and relevant legislation.
- Manage operational budgets and control site expenditure.
- Support CAPEX projects and operational improvement initiatives.
- Manage contractor activities and ensure safe systems of work are followed.
- Build effective relationships with internal departments and external stakeholders.
- Produce operational reports and contribute to site performance reviews.

The successful candidate will have proven operational leadership experience gained within a heavy industrial or process-driven environment, such as:
- Waste Management
- Recycling
- Hazardous Waste
- Environmental Services
- Quarrying & Aggregates
- Anaerobic Digestion
- Energy from Waste
- Manufacturing
- Chemical Processing
- Industrial Processing
Applicants should demonstrate:
- Previous experience leading operational teams within a processing or manufacturing environment.
- Strong leadership, coaching and people management skills.
- Experience managing KPIs, productivity and operational performance.
- Excellent knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
- Experience managing operational budgets and controlling costs.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A proactive, hands-on management style with a focus on continuous improvement.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent.
- WAMITAB/COTC qualification. (preferred but not essential)
- IOSH Managing Safely.
- Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma or Continuous Improvement experience.
- Experience working within a regulated environmental or waste management operation.
