Role Description

The Shift Manager (AM) is responsible for leading all production activities within their assigned shift, ensuring safe, efficient and high-quality manufacturing output that meets business objectives and customer requirements, while also providing support across wider site operations when required. This role exists to ensure world-class manufacturing standards are consistently achieved through strong operational leadership, structured team management and a high-level focus on continuous improvement, capability development and performance excellence.

The Shift Manager is accountable for driving safety, quality, cost and productivity, full training and development of all staff and ensuring robust operational control of the production hall, including the safe shutdown of production lines and secure closure of the Group55 site at the end of each shift.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver shift production targets for volume, quality, efficiency, and cost.
  • Lead safe and compliant production operations across the shift.
  • Ensure safe start-up of production lines and effective end-of-shift handovers.
  • Take responsibility for site opening, security, and operational readiness at the start of each shift.
  • Manage and develop production teams, including training, competency, performance, and engagement.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean manufacturing principles and tools.
  • Monitor and improve key performance indicators (KPIs) including OEE, productivity, waste, downtime, quality, and safety.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, GMP, ISO standards, customer requirements, and company policies.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for production issues, breakdowns, and operational disruptions.
  • Coordinate closely with Engineering, Planning, Warehouse, Supply Chain, and Quality teams to maintain production continuity.
  • Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventative actions to prevent recurring issues.
  • Maintain accurate production reporting, data integrity, and performance communication.
  • Manage engineering activities and site operations outside normal working hours.
  • Support customer visits and production tours, representing operations professionally.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement aligned with company values.

This role will be office-based in Chorley, Lancashire, working the AM shift 6am-2pm. Group55 offer a company profit share bonus after a qualifying period.

Salary: Competitive based on experience.
