About the Team

A leading UK specialist regulatory law practice, consistently ranked in the top tier by both Legal 500 and Chambers UK, is seeking a Senior or Principal Associate to join its highly regarded Professional Discipline team.

The practice is recognised nationally for its expertise in fitness to practise and regulatory law, with a long-established reputation for handling complex, sensitive, and high-profile matters. With over two decades of experience, the team advises a wide range of regulators across health and social care, veterinary and equine, legal services, education, and surveying sectors.

This is an opportunity to join a collaborative, intellectually rigorous, and purpose-driven environment where your work directly contributes to public protection, professional standards, and patient safety.

The Role

This is a senior-level opportunity to work at the forefront of regulatory and professional discipline law.

You will manage a varied caseload involving fitness to practise proceedings, where professionals face allegations relating to misconduct, clinical failings, criminal convictions, competency concerns, or health-related issues. Cases range from large-scale fraud and systemic clinical failings to sensitive matters involving vulnerable individuals and serious allegations of inappropriate behaviour.

The role offers genuine autonomy, complex casework, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a highly regulated and public interest-driven field.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior/Principal Associate, you will:

  • Take ownership of complex, high-risk regulatory and disciplinary cases from instruction through to conclusion
  • Lead on case strategy, procedural planning, and evidential assessment
  • Act as a key point of contact for clients, building strong and trusted relationships
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop junior lawyers and support staff
  • Provide clear, practical, and strategic advice to clients, counsel, and experts
  • Act as an escalation point for legal and strategic issues within the team
  • Instruct and liaise with counsel and expert witnesses, including preparation of briefs and conferences
  • Review witness evidence and expert reports, identifying issues and areas for clarification
  • Prepare high-quality submissions, reports, and case documents
  • Contribute to business development, client engagement, and profile-raising initiatives
  • Support continuous improvement, training, and knowledge sharing across the team

About You

We are looking for a confident and experienced regulatory lawyer who can operate with a high degree of autonomy. You will likely have:

  • Significant experience in regulatory, disciplinary, professional standards, or litigation work
  • Strong exposure to fitness to practise or equivalent regulatory proceedings
  • Proven ability to manage complex, sensitive, and high-risk matters independently
  • Experience supervising and developing junior team members
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with clients, counsel, and experts
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify issues early and provide clear, strategic solutions
  • Confidence acting as a senior point of escalation within a legal team

What’s on Offer

  • High-quality, meaningful regulatory work with public interest impact
  • A top-tier specialist team with a national reputation
  • Strong support for professional development and career progression
  • Hybrid and flexible working arrangements
  • Collaborative, supportive, and inclusive culture
  • Competitive salary and benefits package
