Interim Regulatory Counsel (3–8 PQE)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Interim Regulatory Counsel to join the legal team of a leading organisation operating within the payments and wider financial services sector.
Working as part of an established in-house legal function, you’ll support a range of business-critical regulatory projects, advising on complex regulatory issues within a fast-paced and highly regulated environment. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with legal, compliance, risk and commercial teams, helping the business navigate an evolving regulatory landscape while delivering pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice.
This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer looking to gain further in-house experience or take on a varied interim assignment with a well-regarded organisation.
The Role
You will provide practical, commercially focused regulatory legal advice across a broad range of matters, supporting both day-to-day legal queries and wider strategic regulatory initiatives.
Working alongside internal stakeholders across legal, compliance, risk and commercial functions, you’ll advise on emerging regulatory developments, assist with regulatory implementation projects and help manage legal risk across multiple workstreams. The role will also involve liaising with external counsel where specialist advice is required and contributing to the continuous improvement of legal processes.
The position offers broad exposure to regulatory matters affecting the payments and financial services sector, with the opportunity to work on high-profile projects within a collaborative in-house legal team.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing day-to-day regulatory legal advice to business stakeholders.
- Supporting a range of regulatory projects and business change initiatives.
- Monitoring and advising on UK and European regulatory developments.
- Working closely with legal, compliance, risk and commercial teams to deliver practical legal solutions.
- Managing relationships with external legal advisers where appropriate.
- Assisting with regulatory implementation projects and legal risk assessments.
- Supporting legal process improvements and helping to drive efficiencies across the legal function.
- Contributing to legal knowledge sharing and regulatory horizon scanning.
About You
We’re keen to speak with lawyers who have:
- Approximately 3–8 years’ PQE
- Experience advising on regulatory matters within financial services, payments, fintech or another regulated sector.
- A strong understanding of the UK regulatory landscape, with exposure to European regulation viewed favourably.
- Experience gained in private practice and/or an in-house legal team.
- Excellent stakeholder management, drafting and communication skills.
- A commercial, solutions-focused approach to legal advice.
- The ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Contract Details
- Initial 6-month interim contract, with the possibility of extension.
- Hybrid working (London-based).
