The Opportunity

This role sits with one of the world’s largest and most sophisticated real asset investors, with a substantial portfolio spanning operational real estate platforms, income-producing assets, and asset-backed operating businesses across multiple sectors and geographies

The business has built its reputation through disciplined capital allocation, entrepreneurial thinking, and an unwavering focus on long-term value creation. As the platform continues to expand, it is seeking to appoint a senior operational asset management leader to oversee a large and growing portfolio of operating businesses and real estate assets.

This is a highly visible leadership role, sitting at the intersection of investments, operations, strategy, and value creation.

The Role

This person will have responsibility for overseeing portfolio performance across a range of operating businesses and real estate-backed platforms. The role requires a unique blend of commercial judgement, operational expertise, financial acumen, and leadership capability.

You will work directly with executive teams, operators, investment professionals, and senior stakeholders to identify opportunities, challenge assumptions, allocate capital effectively, and drive business performance. The mandate is to influence outcomes, improve performance, and create value.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead operational asset management strategy across a large and diverse portfolio of operating businesses and real estate platforms.
  • Partner closely with CEOs, management teams, and boards to improve performance and execute strategic initiatives.
  • Drive revenue growth, margin enhancement, operational efficiency, and long-term value creation.
  • Challenge existing operating models and identify opportunities to improve customer experience, productivity, profitability, and scalability.
  • Oversee implementation of strategic business plans and hold operating partners accountable for delivery.

Commercial & Operational Performance

  • Evaluate operating performance through a combination of financial analysis, operational metrics, customer data, and market intelligence.
  • Identify performance gaps and work collaboratively with management teams to implement solutions.
  • Lead initiatives relating to pricing strategy, sales effectiveness, occupancy growth, customer acquisition, retention, labour productivity, procurement, technology adoption, and operational process improvement.
  • Support platform expansion, M&A integration, and new market entry initiatives where appropriate.

Capital Allocation & Strategic Decision Making

  • Assess investment opportunities within existing platforms, including growth capital, acquisitions, developments, repositioning initiatives, and operational improvement programmes.
  • Evaluate business cases and capital deployment opportunities to maximize risk-adjusted returns.
  • Oversee major refinancing, recapitalisation, and capital planning initiatives across the portfolio.
  • Partner with investment teams on hold/sell decisions and long-term portfolio strategy.

Governance & Stakeholder Management

  • Act as a trusted advisor to boards, executive leadership teams, and investment committees.
  • Present strategic recommendations and performance updates to senior internal and external stakeholders.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement across operating partners.
  • Build strong relationships across investments, finance, operations, analytics, development, and capital markets functions.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate is likely to bring:

  • Experience across operational real estate, private equity, infrastructure, real assets, sovereign wealth, pension funds, or other institutional investment platforms.
  • A proven track record of driving operational improvement and value creation within operating businesses or asset-backed platforms.
  • Experience working directly with executive management teams, boards, and investment committees.
  • Strong commercial instincts and the ability to identify opportunities that create meaningful enterprise value.
  • Experience overseeing complex business plans, transformation initiatives, and organisational change.
  • Deep understanding of operating metrics, P&L management, capital allocation, and strategic decision making.
  • Strong financial and analytical capabilities, with the ability to connect operational initiatives to financial outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the credibility to challenge senior stakeholders constructively.
  • An ownership mentality and willingness to take accountability for outcomes.
