Job Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist to lead on sacral nerve stimulation in the urology department at University Hospitals Birmingham, Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The post is for 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, working closely with a team of Clinical Nurse Specialists, Urological Consultants, Outpatient, theatre and Ward Staff.
Applications are invited from nurses who are dynamic and forward‑thinking, with an interest in developing new skills and the ability to deliver high quality patient‑centred care in an inpatient and outpatient setting. The successful candidate will require urology experience. Practice is protocol‑driven and the successful applicant will receive full training to deliver the care and investigations required. This will allow development of new skills, which are transferable to many different areas of nursing and would be an asset to any nursing career. Part of the role would involve helping with the day‑to‑day team management.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required
The main duties of this job will involve delivering care to patients undergoing sacral nerve stimulation and complex benign urology surgery such as Enterocystoplasty and Mitrofanoff. Training will be provided to ensure the successful candidate has the necessary skills to deliver these clinics. However, urology CNS experience is essential. We are looking for a well‑organised empathetic individual who is able to be self‑driven and work autonomously following protocols in clinic, whilst contributing to the wider multidisciplinary urology team.

Qualifications
Essential
- Registered Adult / Child Nurse on the NMC Register. – (field dependent upon role)
- Evidence of post registration CPD / post‑registration qualification in appropriate area of speciality or professional knowledge supplemented by specialist experience and short courses to degree / masters level equivalent FHEQ Level 6 /7
- Recognised mentorship course
- Non‑medical prescriber or willing to work towards (where applicable to role)
- Urology CNS experience
Desirable
- To have or working towards an MSc / Masters qualification
- To have or working towards advanced health assessment module – where applicable to the role
Experience
Essential
- Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC
- Significant post registration experience at Band 6 or above Clinical Nurse Specialist within practice related field to role applied for
- Evidence of ability to professionally lead / manage a team of staff
- Demonstrable understanding of the management responsibility for pay and non‑pay resources associated with a clinical service
- Evidence of delivering change management both personally and as a facilitator
- Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and ongoing professional development / competence
- Demonstrate specialist knowledge underpinned by theory and CPD relevant to speciality
- Experience of developing educational programmes and teaching / assessing and supervising others in a clinical setting
- Experience in service development
- Working in a multi‑disciplinary and cross‑agency work environment
- Can demonstrate expert nursing knowledge with an ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist care delivered to patients and give advice and information to patients / relatives / care staff
- Awareness of current relevant NHS policy context relating to the speciality
