Job Title: Supplier Quality Engineer

Location: Lincoln

Contract length: 6 months contract

Work structure: Hybrid

The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) is a high‑responsibility role within the Small Gas Turbine (SGT) business, focusing on managing external vendors that supply critical blades and vanes (BV). Acting as the primary bridge between Siemens Energy and its global supply chain, the SQE is responsible for monitoring supplier performance, minimizing quality risks, and ensuring all components meet strict internal quality standards. The day‑to‑day workload is fast‑paced and split between technical problem‑solving and cross‑cultural communication.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include addressing and containing component non‑conformances, utilizing root‑cause analysis tools (such as 8D and 5 Whys), and supporting Product and Process Qualifications (PPQ). The ideal candidate is a self‑starter with a solid engineering or manufacturing background, strong data manipulation skills, and a willingness to travel to supplier sites to foster strong working relationships.

Some of the duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Address, process, and contain non‑conforming parts or materials when they are identified.
  • Utilize your quality engineering toolkit—including tools like 8D, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and 5 Whys—to investigate why errors occurred.
  • Engage directly with external vendors to help them troubleshoot and resolve issues related to their manufacturing processes.
  • Supervise overall supplier quality performance, ensuring they implement proper corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Initiate and lead quality improvement programs and risk mitigation measures with underperforming suppliers.
  • Continuously monitor, track, and report on supplier quality data, actively contributing to team Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Support Product and Process Qualifications (PPQ) to ensure parts are manufactured correctly from the start.
  • Guide and support suppliers in properly adhering to Siemens Energy Quality Management Processes, standards, and digital tools.
  • Work closely with experienced, internal cross‑functional teams to uphold quality standards across the SGT (Small Gas Turbine) business.
  • Clearly present findings, quality risks, and data trends to all levels of the business using strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with the non‑blade and vane commodity supplier quality group to share knowledge and best practices.

Essential Requirements

  • Solid background in Engineering, R&D, or manufacturing, backed by a relevant degree or industry experience.
  • Proof of knowledge of drawing interpretation, specifically Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Strong understanding of inspection methodologies and measuring capabilities.
  • Solid general IT skills, including proficiency in Excel and data manipulation.
  • Core proficiency in standard industry quality methods, specifically 5 Why, FMEA, 8D, and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • Working knowledge of Quality Management Systems (such as ISO9001), Supplier Quality Management (SQM), and standard Quality Control routines.
  • Ability to manage risk while focusing on product functionality, delivery/cost constraints, and resource limitations.
  • Proven self‑starter capable of independently managing unexpected supplier quality issues from start to finish.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex problem investigations simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills across all business hierarchies, backed by diplomacy and initiative.
  • Experience working within a global environment with strong cross‑cultural awareness.
  • Demonstrated commitment, structured work habits, collaboration, positivity, and willingness to travel as required.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience working specifically with gas turbine blades or vanes.
  • Hands‑on experience or familiarity with specialized manufacturing methods, specifically:
    • Machining
    • Casting
    • Surface coating technology
