Senior Manager, Industrial Hygiene (IH)
About the Role
DePuy Synthes is recruiting a Senior Manager, Industrial Hygiene (IH) to provide strategic and operational leadership for Industrial Hygiene programs supporting operations in Raynham, MA (USA) or Warsaw, IN (USA). The role also covers other international locations (Loughbeg, Ringaskiddy and St. Anthony’s Road, Leeds, UK) but requires focus on the chosen site. The Senior Manager will protect employee health by identifying, evaluating, and controlling workplace health hazards, ensuring compliance with regulatory and company standards, and driving continuous improvement across IH processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of Industrial Hygiene programs, including exposure assessment, hazard evaluation, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Ensure compliance with applicable IH, EHS, and occupational health regulations (e.g., OSHA, ACGIH) and internal DePuy Synthes standards.
- Serve as the site and regional subject matter expert for Industrial Hygiene, providing guidance to EHS partners, operations, and leadership teams.
- Lead and support IH risk assessments related to chemicals, particulates, noise, ergonomics, and other occupational exposures.
- Develop and maintain IH monitoring programs, data analysis, and reporting to support decision‑making and regulatory submissions.
- Partner cross‑functionally with Manufacturing, Quality, R&D, and Facilities to embed IH controls into process design and change management.
- Lead audits, inspections, and incident investigations related to IH, ensuring timely corrective and preventive actions.
- Coach, mentor, and develop IH and EHS team members; may directly or indirectly manage professionals and project teams.
Qualifications
- EducationRequired: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Environmental Health, Safety Engineering, or a related scientific or engineering discipline. Preferred: Master’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, or Environmental Health and Safety.
- ExperienceTypically 8‑10 years of progressive experience in Industrial Hygiene and/or Environmental Health & Safety roles within a regulated manufacturing or life sciences environment.
- Skills• Demonstrated expertise in IH exposure assessment, monitoring methodologies, and control strategies.• Experience leading IH programs, projects, or initiatives with measurable impact on employee health and compliance.• Strong working knowledge of U.S. occupational health regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, ACGIH).• Proven ability to influence and partner with cross‑functional stakeholders at multiple organizational levels.• Experience supporting medical device, pharmaceutical, or advanced manufacturing operations.• Prior people‑management or matrix leadership experience.• Experience leading regulatory inspections, audits, or consent decree‑related activities.• Familiarity with global EHS standards and multinational operating environments.• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and data interpretation skills.
Other Requirements
- Language: English proficiency required.
- Travel: Limited; up to 10‑20% domestic travel may be required.
- Certifications (Preferred): Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or equivalent professional certification.
