Lead Project Manager

At Severn Trent, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We’re in the top 5% of utility companies worldwide for employee engagement, and we’re equally proud of our strong Glassdoor score — reflecting how much our people love working here.

Join us to make a positive impact on the environment and our communities, while being valued and supported in a truly inclusive workplace.

We’re looking for a Lead Project Manager to spearhead the delivery of our Flood Mitigation Programme within the Rivers & Flooding team. You’ll lead a team of Project Managers and support staff, overseeing a portfolio of projects that reduce flood risk, safeguard customers, and build long‑term community resilience across our region.

You’ll take ownership of programme delivery from concept to completion — providing leadership, commercial oversight, and assurance across design, construction, commissioning, and handover. This is a role where technical expertise meets people leadership, stakeholder engagement, and visible safety management.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Based at our Raynesway office in Derby, you’ll report to the Business Leader for Rivers and Flooding. From defining scope and coordinating design, to managing NEC contracts, engaging customers, and ensuring regulatory compliance, you’ll play a key role in reducing flood impacts across our networks and supporting those we serve.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

  • Extensive experience in flood risk, drainage, water engineering, or wider infrastructure delivery.
  • Strong understanding of flood‑mitigation techniques, surface water management, and drainage systems.
  • Significant experience delivering projects or programmes under the NEC contract framework.
  • Proven ability to deliver high‑volume, medium‑risk projects within a regulated or infrastructure setting.
  • Strong programme‑level risk‑management experience, especially involving customer and community impacts.
  • A solid working knowledge of engineering standards, building regulations, and environmental best practice.
  • Experience leading and coaching multi‑disciplinary teams, driving safety, quality, and performance.
  • Practical leadership and compliance experience under CDM regulations.
  • Experience working closely with supply‑chain and design partners to meet milestones, quality expectations, and H&S standards.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering, Construction, Project Management or an Environmental discipline (desirable).
  • APM or NEC accreditation (desirable).
  • Professional membership (ICE, CIWEM, IMechE, etc.) — or progressing towards it (desirable).
  • Full UK Driving Licence (essential).

Skills and experience matter, but character, positivity, and a caring attitude matter too. We welcome and celebrate diverse individuals, knowing they help us better serve our communities.

HOW WE’LL REWARD AND CARE FOR YOU

  • 28 days holiday + bank holidays (and the ability to buy/sell up to 5 additional days per year).
  • Car allowance (of £400 per month).
  • Annual bonus scheme (of up to £2,250 depending on company performance).
  • Leading pension scheme – we will double your contribution (up to 15% when you contribute 7.5%).
  • Sharesave – the chance to buy Severn Trent Plc shares at a discounted rate.
  • Electric vehicle scheme and retail offers.
  • Family‑friendly policies (including a year off fully paid maternity and adoption leave).
  • Two volunteering days per year.
