Job Overview
We are looking for a PHP Software Developer (Symfony) to join our Digital Services team. This role focuses on building modern, well‑architected PHP applications with a tangible impact on environmental outcomes. You will work on data‑intensive web applications, enhancing established systems and building new ones, sometimes within a team and sometimes leading smaller projects.
Responsibilities
• Work on a portfolio of data‑intensive web applications, from real‑time data collection, processing, ratification and reporting across national and international air quality and energy management systems.
• Provide industry‑leading emergency response solutions for chemical emergencies, helping emergency responders quickly identify correct procedures when hazardous materials incidents occur.
• Contribute to clean, maintainable code, lead development of projects, and proactively engage the wider team using Jira and Confluence.
Essential Requirements
- Experience building production web applications with Symfony (6.4 or 7.4 LTS), using its component architecture, service container, autowiring and bundle ecosystem.
- Strong working knowledge of PHP 8.x and comfortable with PHP 8.4 features.
- Experience with commercial PHP development.
- Strong knowledge of Linux, Nginx or Apache.
- Familiarity with Symfony’s frontend rendering, domain‑driven design fundamentals.
- Well organised with a consistent focus on delivering high‑quality code.
- Ability to lead development of a project and engage broader team.
- Sound knowledge of front‑end fundamentals: JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Bootstrap.
Desirable Requirements
- GIS‑related experience.
- IT or Computer Science degree.
- Interest in clean or hexagonal architecture, DDD or CQRS.
- Experience with Symfony UX, Stimulus, and Turbo.
