Centre: NMT Berkshire (Reading) Employer: New Meaning Training Salary: Negotiable based on experience Type: Full Time, Permanent, All-year-round Hours: 37.5 per week Monday to Friday 08:30-16:30

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver 1:1 and small group sessions centred on life skills, emotional wellbeing and learning goals.
  • Plan and adapt engaging sessions tailored to the individual learner’s needs and progression.
  • Support transitions across different settings (home, group, centre work) and facilitate the learner’s move into a Reading centre, small group settings or mainstream classes.
  • Maintain clear and up-to-date records of learner progress, attendance and engagement.
  • Collaborate with tutors and support staff on schemes of work and learning plans.
  • Participate in learner onboarding, induction and review processes.
  • Develop and adapt learning resources for SEND and SEMH learners.
  • Apply trauma‑informed and relational strategies to support behaviour and wellbeing.
  • Understand learner needs and respond with appropriate interventions.
  • Use Microsoft Office confidently for planning and reporting.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Full UK driving licence and access to a business insured vehicle.
  • Experience supporting young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs in education, youth work, mentoring, care, coaching or community settings.
  • A natural ability to build rapport, encourage disengaged learners and create a safe, supportive space.
  • Confidence planning and delivering meaningful 1:1 or small group life‑skills sessions.
  • Calm, relational and consistent approach to behaviour with an interest in or willingness to learn about trauma‑informed practice.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to respond to learners’ emotional states, changing needs and confidence levels.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset for developing resources, sessions and pathways.
  • Organisational skills, including record‑keeping, time management and independent working (including occasional home visits or lone working).
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office and a willingness to learn new digital systems.
  • Patience, emotional resilience and a reflective approach to practice.
  • Curiosity, openness and commitment to personal and professional development through coaching and CPD.
  • Supportive, learner‑centred attitude that builds confidence, independence and belonging.

Required Training (to be completed within 3 months unless already held)

  • Level 3 Award in Education & Training (AET)
  • Safeguarding & Wellbeing Training
  • Safeguarding Children (Advanced) – Level 2
  • PREVENT Duty
  • Mental Health Awareness

Desirable (but not essential – training can be provided)

  • Experience creating resources, lesson plans or schemes of work.
  • Experience delivering or supporting Functional Skills (Entry Level – Level 2).
  • Experience tracking progress against EHCP outcomes or learner targets.
  • Experience with assessments, records or qualification paperwork.
  • A recognised teaching/tutoring qualification.
  • Confident use of digital learning or tracking systems.
