We are looking for a Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist to join our dynamic CAMHS Inpatient multi‑disciplinary team and cover maternity leave for 12 months.

Job Summary

  • Provide a qualified specialist CAMHS clinical psychology service, including specialist psychological assessment and therapy (DBT, CBT, psycho‑dynamic psychotherapies, etc.).
  • Deliver supervision and reflective practice to the Hope Unit staff team.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide specialist psychological assessments and formulation of young people admitted to the unit.
  • Formulate and implement plans for formal psychological treatment and/or management of a client’s mental health problems.
  • Implement a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups within and across teams.
  • Evaluate and decide on treatment options, considering therapeutic and theoretical models and complex factors.
  • Provide specialist psychological advice, guidance, supervision and consultation to other professionals, including direct support of the assistant psychologist.
  • Offer specialist therapy in various therapeutic modalities.
  • Work autonomously as a senior member of the multi‑disciplinary team within professional guidelines and the team’s policies and procedures.
  • Apply research skills for audit, policy development and research within the CAMHS Service area.
  • Lead the development of new areas of service delivery and care pathways.

Person specification

Qualifications

  • Post‑graduate doctoral‑level training in clinical psychology (or equivalent for pre‑1996 training) accredited by the BPS, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies, and lifespan developmental psychology.
  • Registration with the BPS.
  • Post‑doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice.
  • Specialist training in therapeutic work with children, young people and families.

Experience

  • Demonstrable experience as a qualified clinical psychologist at a specialist level.
  • Experience working with children and young people across a full range of clinical severity, maintaining professionalism in highly emotive and distressing situations.
  • Experience working with families and carers.
  • Experience exercising full clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care and treatment within a multi‑disciplinary team care plan.
  • Experience teaching, training and/or supervising other psychologists.
  • Experience representing psychology within a multi‑disciplinary care context.
  • Experience assessing and treating clients across all care settings.
  • Experience applying psychology in different cultural contexts.

Knowledge

  • Doctoral‑level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis.
  • Knowledge of legislation relating to children, young people and mental health.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS.
  • Formal training in supervision of other psychologists.
  • Well‑developed knowledge of specialised psychological therapies for children and young people.
  • Knowledge of highly specialised psychological therapies and assessment methodologies.
  • Experience working within a multicultural framework.

Skills

  • Proficiency in complex psychological assessment methods, including psychometric testing and intervention requiring sustained concentration.
  • Excellent communication skills—oral and written—delivering technical, clinically sensitive information to clients, families, carers and professional colleagues.
  • Ability to provide consultation to professional and non‑professional groups.
  • Ability to identify, provide and promote appropriate support for carers and staff exposed to distressing situations.
  • Ability to employ clinical governance mechanisms to support and maintain practice under emotional and challenging conditions.
  • Ability to develop and use complex multimedia materials for public, professional and academic presentations.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and occasional weekends.

Work‑related circumstance

  • Use of a car or other means of mobility to travel across the Trust footprint in line with service needs.
