Clinical / Counselling Health Psychologist, Community Services

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.
We welcome applications from newly qualified Psychologists willing to undertake a preceptorship to an 8a.
Main duties of the job
- To work as a Clinical/Counselling/Health Psychologist within the Community Clinical Health Psychology Team, providing a psychological approach as part of an interdisciplinary team—including Allied Health Professionals, Nursing and Medics—to adults referred into the Coventry Integrated Neighbourhood Teams (INTs) and Urgent Care Services.
- To be responsible for managing a caseload and working with the wider multidisciplinary team to support the care needs of patients referred into INTs.
- To provide specialist evidence‑based psychological assessment and treatment of complex cases, requiring detailed analysis, formulation and interventions to maximise quality of life.
- To offer specialist advice and consultation to a range of multi‑agency professionals and non‑professional carers, and to utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development.
- To work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the Trust and the team’s policies and procedures.
- To follow defined care pathways and other relevant pathways as required.
- To assist in the quality and activity monitoring systems.
Job responsibilities
- Provide specialist psychological assessment, formulation and intervention to patients referred to the Coventry Clinical Health Psychology Service.
- Provide specialist psychological advice, guidance, training and consultation to members of the integrated teams and across a wide range of agencies and settings where appropriate.
- Work effectively as a member within the interdisciplinary team.
- Establish and maintain effective communication with various individuals and groups on complex and potentially stressful topics in a range of situations.
- Supervise and manage Trainee Clinical Psychologists, within the framework of team policies and procedures, when eligible.
- Utilise theory, evidence‑based literature and research to support evidence‑based practice in individual work and with other team members.
- Contribute to team meetings and the effective operation of the team.
- Demonstrate familiarity with safeguarding of vulnerable adults procedures and legislation in relation to the patient group.

Qualifications
- Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or recognised equivalent).
- Registered as a Clinical/Counselling/Health Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council.
- Evidence of continuing professional development in the area of physical health.
Experience
- Experience of working with a range of clients presenting with varying clinical severity, maintaining professionalism in challenging circumstances.
- Experience of applying psychological theory and practice with patients living with acute and chronic health issues and other issues related to adaptation to physical conditions.
- Experience of tailoring psychological assessment and intervention to individual needs.
- Experience of team working.
- Experience of applying psychology in different cultural contexts.
- Experience of working within an acute hospital setting.
- Experience of teaching, training and clinical supervision.
- Experience of providing consultancy to colleagues.
Knowledge
- Doctoral level knowledge of clinical/counselling/health psychology, including highly developed knowledge of lifespan developmental psychology, models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and at least two distinct psychological therapies.
- Knowledge of legislation relating to the client group.
- Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practised within the field.
- Knowledge of the theory and practice of highly specialist assessment methods and therapeutic approaches in relation to physical illness and/or disability.
Skills
- Skills in the use of psychological assessment, intervention and management that frequently require sustained and intense concentration.
- High level ability to communicate effectively at both a written and oral level, conveying complex, highly technical and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and a wide range of lay and professional persons within and outside the NHS.
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non‑professional groups.
- Ability to identify, provide and promote appropriate means of support to team members and staff exposed to highly distressing situations.
- Commitment to the evaluation of services, enthusiasm for both multi‑professional and uni‑professional audit, and a willingness to continue to develop expertise in the service area.
