Role Overview
We are seeking a Consultant Emergency General Surgeon with specialist interest in Benign Pancreatobiliary Surgery to join our newly developed Emergency General Surgery Service at Royal Liverpool Hospital. The post will support established pancreatobiliary teams and enhance emergency surgical care within a large general surgical team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide full and continuing responsibility for patient care, including administrative duties.
- Lead, develop and organise services in line with Trust business plans.
- Collaborate with lead clinicians, senior management, operational teams and multidisciplinary teams.
- Develop own subspecialties within the specialty with approval of Clinical Lead and Service Group Director; participate actively in research programmes.
- Take corporate and individual responsibility for professional management of doctors in training.
- Coordinate cover within the specialty during leave periods, ensuring optimal utilisation of clinics and lists while minimising impact to patients.
Additional Expectations
The role will be part of the general surgery on‑call rota at Royal site and involve supporting 22 surgeons who provide emergency general surgery and specialist on‑call services across the south of the city. The post holder will help meet waiting‑list targets for general surgical procedures and shape the evolving emergency surgery (EGS) model.
Qualifications & Working Hours
Suitable candidates must be qualified consultants in HPB and Emergency Surgery. This is a full‑time post; applicants wishing to work less than full time will also be considered on merit.
