Job Overview

Are you a qualified Social Worker with Children’s experience looking for your next role?

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Milton Keynes CAMHS team based at Eaglestone Health Centre on the hospital campus.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide a range of specialist interventions, advice and support to young people who are identified as having or at risk of developing emotional, psychological or mental health issues, and advise others in Tier 1 working with children/young people across Milton Keynes.
  • Ensure mental health needs are identified and addressed through appropriate services, including assessment of mental and emotional health needs and facilitation of referral pathways. Manage a personal caseload under the supervision of a Senior Clinician in CAMHS.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support to children, young people, parents and staff in school and at home regarding mental health, emotional difficulties and associated behaviour problems.
  • Contribute to overall assessment, including risk assessment, of children and young people in terms of their mental health needs.
  • Offer support, advice, signposting and on‑ward referral to children and professionals contacting the CAMHS service by telephone referral line.
  • Run CAMHS Assessment Clinics for young people in MK catchment area – offering assessment, short‑term intervention, professional advice and consultation.
  • Cover the CAMHS Daily Duty service, managing queries and enquiries from parents and professionals.
  • Liaise with professionals providing services to children and young people, such as those in primary care, children’s services, education and others.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Relevant professional qualification in Social Work.
  • Member of a professional body.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Additional qualifications or training in child and adolescent mental health.
  • Degree level education.

Experience

  • Substantial experience working in child and adolescent mental health.
  • Experience working as a member of a multi‑disciplinary team or in multi‑agency contexts.
  • Good understanding of the range of child and adolescent mental health services.

Desirable Experience

  • Knowledge and experience in mental health promotion work.

Skills

  • Good communication, assessment, planning and recording skills.
  • Ability to deliver interventions which address assessed needs.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other disciplines.

Desirable Skills

  • Ability to evaluate interventions and practice for service improvement.
