Clinical or Counselling Psychologist
The Children and Young People’s (CYPS) Directorate in Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is offering an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to join the Mindworks East Community Hub at Leatherhead, with expectation of occasional travel to Redhill or other Surrey locations. This is a permanent full‑time (37.5 hours) post. Applications are invited from Clinical or Counselling Psychologists registered with the HCPC and to Clinical Psychologists currently in training who expect to become registered in 2026.
The post-holder will be part of a multidisciplinary team delivering specialist interventions for children and young people experiencing complex, chronic and/or severe mental health difficulties. They will provide evidence-based interventions and demonstrate proficiency in CBT and at least one other psychological therapy. They will contribute to service development through evaluation, audit and service‑user participation.
Main duties of the job
- Carry out comprehensive psychological assessment and formulation, plan, implement and evaluate delivery of psychological interventions to support children and young people with complex mental health needs.
- Actively involve people in developing and agreeing their own care plan, act as an advocate and ensure proper regard for their dignity, choice, self‑esteem, racial, cultural, sexual and religious needs and preferences.
- Adapt verbal and written communication to meet the needs of people who use our services.
- Undertake comprehensive risk assessments and develop effective risk‑management plans.
- Contribute positively to divisional and team developments in relation to all aspects of psychology practice.
Qualifications
- Doctorate in Clinical or Counselling Psychology (or equivalent).
- HCPC registration (or expect to register by 2026).
Experience
- Experience working with people across the life span with a range of mental health issues and cognitive profiles.
- Experience across a range of psychological models including systemic, behavioural and individual therapeutic approaches.

Salary: £51,657 to £58,785 a year (incl. 5% Fringe HCAS, pro rata).
