As a HVAC Engineer at Royal Stoke Hospital, you’ll be the go‑to expert for technical support and maintenance across equipment, building systems, and utility services.

Job Details

  • 40 Hours a Week / Monday to Friday / 8 hours a day shift times between 6am and 6:30pm
  • £18.61 per hour

  • Location: Royal Stoke Hospital
  • Manual Driving licence required.

Responsibilities

  • Fully competent AP/CP engineer with expertise in diagnosing, maintaining and repairing complex mechanical and electrical systems across a hospital estate.
  • Deliver planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, HTM standards and manufacturer requirements.
  • Operate, maintain and fault‑find on critical plant and equipment including heating, ventilation, steam, refrigeration, medical gas, compressed air and water systems.
  • Support contractual performance by meeting response and rectification targets, producing technical reports and contributing to compliance monitoring.
  • Undertake Authorised Person and/or Competent Person responsibilities, ensuring safe systems of work, permit‑to‑work compliance and operational safety.
  • Use CAFM, BMS and other IT systems to record, monitor and report maintenance activities, asset performance and quality assurance data.
  • Provide technical leadership, training and guidance to engineering teams, fostering continuous improvement and supporting workforce development.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders, delivering professional engineering support while ensuring a safe, efficient and cost‑effective maintenance service.

Qualifications

  • Completed a recognised Mechanical or Electrical Engineering apprenticeship with City & Guilds, BTEC or equivalent qualification.
  • Proven experience in a Mechanical or Electrical engineering maintenance role, with strong technical knowledge and practical hands‑on skills.
  • Skilled in fault finding, diagnostics, reading technical drawings and carrying out repairs on a wide range of plant and equipment.
  • Confident decision‑maker with excellent problem‑solving abilities, capable of assessing situations and responding effectively under pressure.
  • Self‑motivated, adaptable and able to manage changing priorities while maintaining high standards of service delivery.
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety regulations, safe working practices and compliance requirements within an engineering environment.
  • Competent IT user with experience of maintenance management systems, including Building Management Systems (BMS), and able to produce clear technical reports.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across multi‑disciplinary teams; HVAC and healthcare maintenance experience desirable.
