Mechanical Design Engineer

The Successful candidate will be self‑motivated and able to work autonomously while confidently seeking support when needed. They will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders in the engineering department to produce reliable products and production methods. The core responsibilities include designing enclosures and mechanisms for harsh environments (e.g., –40°C, marine conditions, MIL‑STD), producing CAD (Solidworks) models, technical drawings, and build guides, and inspecting drawings prior to manufacture. They will assist with prototype testing and production troubleshooting, ensuring products meet high quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Fluency in English (spoken and written)
  • Solidworks experience (3D modeling, 2D technical drawings, BOM production)
  • Knowledge of material properties, manufacturing techniques, plating methods, coatings, and fasteners
  • Ability to travel between Ware (main office) and Sandy (machine shop) on short notice
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to produce clear, concise documentation
  • Self‑motivated, quick learner, and capable of working within a team
  • Pragmatic problem‑solving approach
  • Design for manufacture and assembly
  • Potential asset: ergonomic and aesthetic design, familiarity with IP ratings (e.g., IP67), and experience with IP testing
  • Justification of design decisions using calculations, analysis, and written documentation; FEA and thermal simulation experience advantageous

Travel & Relocation

Travel: 10‑25% of time. Relocation support: none.
