Job Description:

Westray Recruitment Group are seeking to recruit an Electronics Engineer for our client based in Northallerton.

WHAT IS IN IT FOR YOU?

  • Permanent role – full time
  • Monday to Friday working hours (early finish on Friday)
  • Long‑term career progression within a growing engineering business
  • Opportunity to work across a varied product portfolio and technically challenging projects
  • Hands‑on role offering exposure to product support, NPI, design modifications and manufacturing engineering
  • Stable employment within a long‑established, quality‑driven organisation
  • Collaborative team environment with genuine opportunities to influence engineering improvements
  • Supportive management and ongoing professional development

THE BUSINESS

We’re working with a long-established UK electronics manufacturer (60+ years in business) who are looking to bring in an Electronics Engineer to strengthen their engineering capability across manufacturing and product lifecycle support.

This isn’t a pure design role.

In fact, design work is only a small part of the job.

Instead, you’ll be working closely with production and engineering teams to keep real‑world products running, buildable and reliable.

You’ll be joining a stable, long‑established manufacturer with a strong engineering culture and a growing workload.

This is a chance to step into a role where your engineering input directly affects how products are built, tested and delivered.

THE ROLE

As Electronics Engineer, you will provide practical engineering support across a broad range of electronic products, ensuring designs remain reliable, manufacturable and fully supported throughout their lifecycle. You will incorporate Manufacturing, NPI and Product Support.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting electronic products through manufacture and their full lifecycle
  • Solving production and test issues when builds don’t go to plan
  • Supporting NPI and getting new products into production
  • Handling component obsolescence and sourcing replacements
  • Making engineering changes to improve manufacturability
  • Fault‑finding analogue and digital electronics issues
  • Supporting test, validation and root cause analysis
  • Working closely with shop floor and engineering teams

THE PERSON

We are looking for an engineer who combines solid technical knowledge with a practical, hands‑on approach.

You will ideally have:

  • Degree qualification in Electronics, Electronic Engineering or a related discipline
  • Previous experience in an Electronics Engineer or similar engineering position beyond graduate level
  • Strong understanding of analogue and digital electronics
  • Experience working with microcontrollers and programmable devices such as Microchip, Atmel or similar platforms
  • Familiarity with PCB design and engineering software such as EasyPC, KiCad, AutoCAD, SolidWorks or equivalent
  • Experience supporting products through manufacture, testing, NPI or product lifecycle activities
  • Strong practical fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to prioritise work and manage multiple engineering tasks effectively
  • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to work collaboratively across engineering and manufacturing teams
  • A proactive attitude with the ability to work independently when required

It would be advantageous if you also have experience with:

  • Component obsolescence and alternative part selection
  • High‑reliability or regulated manufacturing environments
  • Aerospace, defence, industrial electronics, instrumentation, oil & gas or ATEX applications
  • Quality‑led manufacturing, traceability, testing and IPC standards

You’ll likely already be working in one of these environments:

  • Electronics manufacturing / EMS / contract manufacturing
  • Aerospace, defence, oil & gas, ATEX or instrumentation
  • Industrial or high‑reliability electronics

You’ll be someone who enjoys:

  • Practical engineering, not just design work
  • Being close to production and real hardware
  • Solving problems others can’t
  • Taking ownership of technical issues

Above all, you’ll be someone who enjoys practical engineering, takes pride in producing quality work and thrives within a collaborative SME environment where no two days are the same.
