About the Role
We recognise that our success, and future success, is tied directly to our people. We are looking for a Senior Quality Engineer to lead quality activities at our Ipswich manufacturing site. This is a hands‑on role combining technical problem solving, leadership responsibility for Quality Technicians and ownership of the site Integrated Management System (IMS). The role is critical in protecting the customer, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring compliance with ISO standards.
Responsibilities
- Quality Leadership & Problem Solving
- Lead investigations into internal and field quality issues, ensuring:
- Effective containment to protect the customer
- Timely recovery to minimise production disruption
- Robust long‑term corrective actions to prevent recurrence
- Drive structured problem solving (e.g. 8D/CAPA) across cross‑functional teams
- Provide technical leadership and interface with Engineering, Operations and Supply Chain to resolve issues
- Support Operations and Team Leaders in delivering sustained quality improvement
- Process & Product Quality Improvement
- Develop and improve inspection, testing and evaluation methods to improve defect detection and prevention
- Utilise data to identify trends and drive targeted improvement actions across the business
- Monitor and improve key KPIs (e.g. PPM, non‑conformance, and disruption to production)
- Support new product introduction activities, ensuring quality requirements translate into effective production controls
- Integrated Management System (IMS) Ownership
- Own and maintain the site Integrated Management System (IMS), ensuring it remains up to date, effective and compliant
- Lead preparation for external audits, including ISO9001 certification audits
- Act as the primary Quality interface with external auditors (e.g. BSI)
- Support the EH&S Manager in maintaining and auditing ISO14001 and ISO45001 systems
- Ensure processes, procedures and records reflect current practice and drive standardisation across the site
- Standards, Compliance & Support
- Maintain quality standards to maximise product reliability and minimise defects, scrap and rework
- Provide technical support across departments based on quality data and analysis
- Ensure alignment to ISO9001 and internal quality system requirements
Qualifications
- Educated to degree level or equivalent in an Engineering related field, OR relevant experience considered in lieu.
- Five or more years’ experience in a manufacturing quality environment.
- Strong working knowledge of ISO9001 (ISO14001 / ISO45001 desirable).
- Proven experience in structured problem solving (8D, CAPA, root cause analysis).
- Experience managing or leading quality inspection or technician teams.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Strong analytical, communication and organisational skills.
- Data‑driven with a structured, hands‑on approach.
