Configuration & Product Definition Engineer (PLM)

Location: Welwyn Garden City

Salary: £40,000 – £50,000 + Bonus + Benefits

A leading engineering and manufacturing organisation is seeking a Configuration & Product Definition Engineer to join its Physical Design team. You’ll take ownership of the technical configuration and product definition of complex mechanical and electromechanical assemblies across the full lifecycle — from development through production and into in-service support — acting as custodian of build definitions and product data within the PLM system, and ensuring engineering changes are accurately controlled and released on schedule.

Key responsibilities

  • Define, maintain and manage product build definitions within the PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) system.
  • Control the release of product definition data in line with programme schedules and delivery milestones.
  • Manage engineering changes, change notices and problem reports across production, development and customer activities.
  • Support non-conformance investigation and resolution for production and in-service equipment.
  • Maintain configuration integrity as upgrades, developments and contract changes are introduced.
  • Take ownership of specific hardware assemblies and their technical baseline.
  • Work with Configuration Management, Manufacturing and engineering teams (UK and international) to resolve issues and support build activities.

What we’re looking for (useful but not all essential)

  • Experience in PLM, Configuration Management or Design Definition processes.
  • Delivery of complex engineering products in a regulated or technically demanding environment.
  • Knowledge of mechanical assemblies incorporating hydraulic and/or electrical equipment.
  • Experience of engineering change and non-conformance activities.
  • Understanding of systems engineering principles and requirements management.
  • Knowledge of hardware design, manufacture or integration processes.
  • Awareness of planning tools such as Primavera P6 (desirable).
  • Strong organisational, prioritisation and communication skills
