Controls Engineer (Project Management)

Salary: £65,000 – £75,000 per annum plus varied projects and benefits.

Location: Reading.

This role offers the opportunity to join an industry specialist in engineering, working on a variety of projects across water, wastewater, utilities, energy and industrial process sectors.

As the technical lead on site‑based projects, you will perform surveys and assessments, develop scopes of work, produce functional design specifications, and support full project life‑cycle delivery through commissioning and handover. You will work closely with design, commissioning and delivery teams while maintaining strong ownership of technical outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Conduct site surveys and assess existing PLC, SCADA and instrumentation systems.
• Define scope of works, technical requirements and system upgrade strategies.
• Estimate project effort, materials and costs for ICA / control system upgrades.
• Support full project lifecycle delivery through to commissioning and handover.
• Collaborate with design, commissioning and delivery teams to ensure technical outcomes are met.

Qualifications

• Strong background in Industrial Control & Automation (ICA), EC&I or Controls Engineering.
• Experience with PLC systems, SCADA, HMI development and instrumentation.
• Commutable to Reading or surrounding area.
