Automation Engineer (Barriers & Doors)

Location: North West (Manchester / Liverpool Region) – Field Based

Salary: £38,000 per annum

Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 17:00

Contract Type: Permanent

About the Role

A growing and well-established engineering organisation is seeking an experienced Automation Engineer (Barriers & Doors) to support a range of commercial and residential sector clients across the North West. This field-based position offers a varied workload, including reactive maintenance, planned preventative servicing, fault diagnosis, and installation of automated access systems. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled engineer who enjoys problem-solving, working independently, and delivering high-quality service to customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend emergency breakdowns and reactive maintenance call-outs.
  • Diagnose and repair faults on automated doors, gates, and barrier systems.
  • Carry out routine servicing and planned preventative maintenance.
  • Install and commission automated access equipment.
  • Conduct site inspections, surveys, and system assessments.
  • Complete accurate service reports and job documentation.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in line with health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain timesheets and work records to company standards.
  • Participate in an on‑call rota and undertake overtime when required.

Skills & Experience Required

  • ADSA or ADIA accreditation.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with automatic doors, gates, barriers, or similar automation systems.
  • Full UK Manual Driving Licence.
  • Strong fault‑finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
  • High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Self‑motivated, reliable, and able to work independently.
  • Flexible approach to working hours and customer requirements.
