Stride Recruitment is urgently recruiting for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to be based on-site at Wishaw University Hospital ML2 0DP, covering building services PPMs and reactive maintenance on a long-term contract or temp-to-perm position for our client’s on-site Estates Management contract.

Job Details

  • Location: Wishaw University Hospital ML2 0DP
  • Full time – Mon‑Friday, 37.5 hours per week, paid weekly
  • Salary: £22.55 per hour ongoing, with overtime at 1.5x for hours beyond 37.5 and 2x for Sundays & Bank Holidays

Core Requirements

As the Mechanical Maintenance Engineer you will carry out PPM and reactive maintenance breakdowns, including water sampling, planned mechanical maintenance and reactive plant remediations across the hospital, either alone or with internal or outsourced colleagues.

Main Accountabilities

  • Service and maintain building plumbing services and plant equipment in accordance with relevant standards, frequencies, and safe working practices; respond to reactive breakdowns, conduct fault finding and carry out necessary repairs.
  • Carry out scheduled planned preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Adopt a ‘can do’ approach to your work ethos.
  • Work within a small maintenance team comprising a mechanical shift engineer, a semi‑skilled shift engineer and a full‑day team of engineering and support staff.

What you will need for the role

  • Good all‑round technical ability and a working knowledge of a wide variety of plumbing systems; knowledge of building maintenance is preferred but not essential.
  • Must hold a Qualified or Time‑Served NVQ 2+ Mechanical Maintenance Engineer certification.
  • Previous plumbing and mechanical commercial PPM experience required.
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral.
  • The ability to multi‑task and be methodical.
  • A pro‑active approach to problem solving.
  • Overtime will be available (shift covers, shutdown work, and additional remedial works).
