MV Fruehauf is a leading UK trailer engineering and manufacturing company, operating from a large facility in Grantham. The business has undergone significant investment and transformation in recent years, with expansion of product lines, modern fabrication machinery, upgraded facilities, and a growing workforce.

Role Overview

MV Fruehauf is seeking a proactive and experienced Health & Safety Manager / Advisor to lead and support the company’s health, safety, environmental, and compliance activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining effective health and safety systems across manufacturing, engineering, warehouse, and office environments, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and company standards.

This role is suitable for either an experienced Health & Safety Manager or a Health & Safety Advisor looking to progress into a broader leadership position.

Health & Safety Management

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve the company’s Health & Safety Management System.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable UK health and safety legislation, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Maintain and review company health and safety policies, procedures, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
  • Monitor workplace activities to ensure compliance with safety requirements and standards.
  • Promote a positive health and safety culture throughout the organisation.

Site Compliance

  • LOLER and thorough examination of cranes, forklifts and other lifting equipment.
  • LEV & spray booth stack testing.
  • Fire alarm tests.
  • Electric low voltage and high voltage testing.
  • Other site compliance tasks.
  • Conduct and review risk assessments across manufacturing, maintenance, warehousing, logistics and office operations.
  • Identify hazards and implement effective control measures.
  • Support managers in developing safe working practices and operational procedures.
  • Lead workplace inspections and audits to identify areas for improvement.

Accident Investigation

  • Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences.
  • Prepare detailed reports and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
  • Monitor action plans to ensure timely completion.
  • Analyse trends and provide recommendations to reduce risks.

Induction & Training

  • Deliver health and safety inductions for new employees and contractors.
  • Organise and coordinate mandatory health and safety training.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to managers and employees on safety‑related matters.
  • Promote employee engagement through safety campaigns, toolbox talks and awareness initiatives.

Compliance & Auditing

  • Conduct regular internal audits and compliance inspections.
  • Support external audits and regulatory inspections.
  • Maintain accurate health and safety records and documentation.
  • Monitor legal updates and advise management on changes affecting the business.
  • Support environmental compliance initiatives and sustainability objectives.
  • Assist with occupational health and employee wellbeing programmes.
  • Monitor workplace welfare facilities and standards.
  • Support emergency preparedness and business continuity planning.

Contractor & Visitor Management

  • Review contractor risk assessments and method statements.
  • Monitor contractor activities to ensure safe working practices.
  • Ensure visitors and contractors comply with site safety requirements.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Reduction in accidents, incidents and near misses.
  • Completion of risk assessments and corrective actions within agreed timescales.
  • Audit compliance scores and inspection outcomes.
  • Regulatory compliance and successful external audits.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Experience in a Health & Safety role within manufacturing, engineering, automotive, industrial or related environments.
  • Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments and incident investigations.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.
  • Strong organisational and reporting abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Membership of IOSH (TechIOSH, GradIOSH or Chartered status).
  • Experience with ISO 45001 management systems.
  • Environmental qualification or experience with ISO 14001.
  • Experience within trailer manufacturing, heavy engineering or vehicle assembly operations.
