About The Role

At Balfour Beatty, we’re delivering some of the UK’s most significant energy infrastructure projects and are looking for a Senior Health, Safety & Wellbeing Manager to join our growing Power Transmission & Distribution team in North East Scotland.

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key leadership role across a diverse and high‑profile portfolio of overhead line and substation projects stretching from Peterhead to Dundee, with a combined value of approximately £113 million.

Projects Within The Portfolio Include

  • Peterhead 400kV GIS Extension
  • Longside 400kV & 132kV Substations
  • New Deer Substation
  • Cambushinnie Substation
  • A number of additional strategic infrastructure projects supporting Scotland’s energy transition

As Senior Health, Safety & Wellbeing Manager, you’ll provide visible leadership and expert guidance across the portfolio, driving our Zero Harm culture and ensuring the highest standards of health, safety and wellbeing performance. You’ll work closely with operational teams, supply chain partners and key stakeholders to influence behaviours, embed best practice and support the successful delivery of these critical projects.

The successful candidate will ideally be based in the Aberdeen area, although we welcome applications from candidates across North East Scotland who are willing to travel regularly throughout the portfolio.

What you’ll be doing

  • Work with the HS&W Head of to develop and ensure the delivery of the Business Unit/Project Zero Harm Strategy aligned to the Power T&D Business Plan.
  • Manage the recruitment and development of HS&W professionals within their chain of command, including coaching and mentoring as required.
  • Develop professional relationships with regulators, customers joint‑venture partners and supply chain.
  • Manage day‑to‑day Health and Safety resources to support Operations in implementing the Health and Safety Policy and standards across their area of responsibility.
  • Manage the resource allocation and deployment of competent HS&W delivery resource across their area of responsibility, ensuring resource utilisation data is collected and made available to implement a risk‑based support schedule.
  • Support work‑winning and bid support for the operational teams, where required.
  • Manage the programme of inspection and audit to provide assurance that all business units continue to comply with company requirements.
  • Fulfil HS&W, Client and Balfour Beatty incident reporting and performance requirements (7 Day Report, KPIs) and act as incident lead if required.
  • In collaboration with Project Director/Head of Operations Directors, carry out project and business sector HS&W performance reviews using lagging and leading indicators.
  • Support the Operations/Project Director with contract/project level SHELTs to drive and deliver HS&W improvement plans.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of developments in Health and Safety.

Who we’re looking for

  • Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (or working towards).
  • NVQ Level 4/5 (or equivalent qualification/experience).
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate / Diploma.
  • Must have detailed, technical knowledge and experience of health and safety legislation, regulations and guidance.
  • Construction industry experience (or experience in an equivalent sector) and in particular CDM.
  • Must have prior experience of providing leadership and support to operational and functional teams.
