The Opportunity

We are looking for a qualified and experienced Environmental Health Officer / Food Safety Officer to protect public health, support local businesses and maintain community safety across the district.

Hours, Contract and Salary

Hours: Flexible part‑time (full‑time may also be considered). Contract: Permanent. Salary: £39,152 – £42,839 pro rata.

Responsibilities

  • Carrying out food hygiene inspections and food safety interventions
  • Undertaking health and safety enforcement activities
  • Investigating complaints and infectious disease cases
  • Providing advice and guidance to businesses
  • Supporting safety advisory groups and advising on event safety
  • Managing and developing Primary Authority relationships
  • Carrying out sampling, projects and other regulatory work

Qualifications and Experience

  • Recognition from CIEH / EHRB in Environmental Health (BSc, MSc, Diploma or equivalent)
  • Minimum of two years post‑qualification experience
  • Registration with the EHRB (or eligibility)
  • Strong knowledge and experience of food safety and health & safety enforcement
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of giving clear advice and producing high‑quality reports
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexible approach, including willingness to work outside normal hours when required
