Duties And Responsibilities



  • Using a Youth Work approach to build positive relationships with young people to create a culture of tolerance and acceptance within the setting.

  • Work with visiting schools to the Pump offering participative and dynamic sessions to motivate young people to engage in learning and where relevant gain accreditation.

  • Work within NCFE/AQA qualification criteria, where appropriate, ensuring high-quality learning is offered with individual needs accommodated where required and all quality assurance is met.

  • Work with a schools-based team to reflect on practice, reviewing contract /SLA compliance, areas for development and other routes for accreditation and learning.

  • Create and implement ongoing monitoring and evaluation to track and share the development and achievements of students with schools, parents and carers with a real focus on celebrating the successes of young people.

  • Design schemes of work that enable young people to increase their personal development, a willingness to learn and develop their employability, including their technical skills, functional skills, social skills and communication skills.

  • Work directly with visiting schools to create and develop programme plans that meet both individual needs and school objectives.

  • Ensure quality assurance and student progress is met, celebrated and shared, with any areas for improvement being actioned.

  • Support the Pump’s wider offer and complement the multi‑agency hub model of operation.

  • Become familiar and skilled with our Creative Spaces to maximise opportunities for young people to thrive and develop their creative skills. These include our Makerspace, recording studios and café.

  • Support our summer programme and youth club activities outside of term time through the delivery of positive activities (sports, arts, creative sessions, etc.) as and when required.

  • Engage with young people to learn the technical skills required within our music studio, navigating the range of software to produce their own music.

  • Where appropriate, represent The Pump at partnership meetings/external forums. East Birmingham sharing panel.

  • Create a culture of safe space and work within our safeguarding policy ensuring all issues are reported, recorded and actioned, in line with our policy and good practice.

  • Adhere to all Pump policies, procedures, and guidelines, particularly in relation to Recruitment and Selection, Equality Diversity and Inclusion, Health and Safety and Finance.

  • Undertake the essential and relevant training identified for the role and attend regular meetings with line manager to explore personal objectives and areas for growth.

  • Carry out any other relevant associated duties as may, from time to time, incidentally arise, develop or be assigned.
