Job overview

We are recruiting for a Medical Secretary to provide medical secretary provision to the North Cornwall Adult Community Mental Health Team.

To be part of the North Cornwall CMHT/DOPMH wider admin team and to ensure high levels of service are provided at all times, across the Locality, providing service support overall when required.

Banham House has on‑site car parking, which offers free parking to staff.

This post is working 15 hours per week, working Thursday & Friday, 9.00 a.m. – 5.00 p.m. as part of a job share opportunity.

This job is currently only open to people who already work for the NHS in Cornwall or the Isles of Scilly.

Main duties of the job

To provide an efficient and effective Medical Secretary service to a specific Consultant Psychiatrist and their medical team.

The post holder is required to manage their day to day workload and use their initiative without supervision which will require informed judgement, excellent organisational and communication skills and the ability to multi‑task and prioritise competing demands.

To ensure effective lines of communication between team members, patients, and others, whilst maintaining confidentiality at all times.

Education, Qualifications & Experience

  • GCSE Maths and English / Key Skills equivalent
  • NVQ 3 Business Administration or equivalent knowledge or experience
  • RSA/OCR III Word-Processing or equivalent qualification or experience
  • RSA/OCR II Audio-Typing or equivalent qualification or experience
  • Computer Literate with experience of spreadsheets and databasesMedical Secretary Diploma or equivalent knowledge or experience
  • RSA/OCR III Audio-Typing or equivalent
  • Previous experience working as a secretary in the NHS
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure whilst remaining calm
  • Ability to manage own workload and work independently
  • Ability to prioritise and work on own initiative
  • Problem Solving

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Minute taking experience
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
