This is a well-established joint post between Bath University and North Bristol NHS Trust, with an equal split between both roles. The post holder will be responsible for developing, delivering, and assessing practice‑based learning at an undergraduate level and will take part in the Critical Care pharmacy team, providing clinical services to the speciality. This joint appointment will involve working collaboratively with other practice educators to design, deliver and assess practice‑based learning elements of the pharmacy undergraduate degree course, including the Clinical Learning in Practice (CLIP) model, while covering face‑to‑face teaching, assessment and pastoral support for students. In addition to teaching, the role requires participation in the hospital’s pharmaceutical management and care of patients in intensive care and theatre environments, training and education, leadership and financial and governance reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Intensive Care multidisciplinary team to develop and deliver the clinical pharmacy service in accordance with Trust policies, procedures, national legislation, and standards.
- Provide support to the Highly Specialist Critical Care and Theatres Lead Pharmacist with service development, clinical guideline development, audit, training and mentoring.
- Provide specialist clinical pharmacy services at a high level to the Critical Care Specialty at NBT, supporting safe and effective medicines provision for Critical Care patients throughout the organisation.
- Design and deliver high‑quality teaching to undergraduate students on the new MPharm programme in line with Department/School and University policy.
- Carry out a significant role in the design, development and delivery of practice‑based learning in the department of pharmacy and pharmacology.
- Contribute effectively to University‑wide developments and innovation in the design and delivery of teaching.
- Act in accordance with Medicines legislation, the code of ethics of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), United Kingdom Medicines Information (UKMI) standards, and Trust policies and procedures.
- Teach and supervise junior staff such as pharmacists, technicians, students and healthcare professionals.
- Line‑manage band 7 specialist and rotational pharmacists working in the relevant areas.
Qualifications and Requirements
The role has a major focus on teaching and potential candidates must therefore have excellent presentation and communication skills, have completed a clinical diploma, and be able to work both at the University in Bath and Southmead hospital in Bristol.
