Speech and Language Therapy Assistant

The closing date is 09 July 2026.

Fixed term for 18 months | Internal applicants only | Part Time 7.50 hours.

We are seeking a motivated and skilled individual to provide support to Speech and Language Therapists working within the Sheffield Youth Justice Service (YJS). This role sits within the YJS Specialist Intervention Team and plays a key part in supporting children and young people (CYP) involved with the service.

About You

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi‑agency environment
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to build positive professional relationships
  • Experience of working with children and young people, or within health, justice or social care settings, is desirable

Main duties of the job

Reporting into the Team Leader, some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide day‑to‑day support to Speech and Language Therapists delivering interventions within YJS
  • Work collaboratively as part of the Specialist Intervention Team
  • Attend meetings and maintain effective communication with YJS officers
  • Liaise with a wide range of partner agencies, including health professionals, social care, police, housing and education services
  • Support joint working to ensure coordinated, needs‑led interventions for children and young people

Experience

  • To have a good understanding of SystmOne
  • To undertake the duties of the post it is expected the successful candidate will have experience of secretarial, administrative and clerical tasks
  • Experience of working in the NHS/medical or patient environment
  • Experience of working with the public

Knowledge and Skills

  • Experience of IT systems, typing and using email
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and InPrint3
  • Good spoken communication skills to liaise with patients, parents/carers and other professionals
  • Good written skills in order to set standards for outgoing documentation
  • To have skills in sourcing and researching information
  • Experience of having produced visual support resources

Qualifications

  • GCSE/O Level or equivalent qualification in English Language
  • RSA

  • To maintain and understand the importance of confidentiality in the work environment
  • Flexibility in approach to changes in service need

£25,760 to £27,476 a year per annum pro rata
