An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Medical Photography Departmentat North Bristol NHS Trust. We are seeking a compassionate, motivated individual with a foundation degree in photography or HND/NVQ level 4 in photography, or equivalent relevant professional experience.

The Medical Photography department provides critical support to excellent care across the Trust and you will be delivering a high‑quality service including medical photography (studio/ward/clinic) and ophthalmic photography. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a thorough understanding of image management/digital technology is essential.

You will support the department using your photography and image management skills to enable clinical decision making and care. You will work with the medical photographers to deliver the service with high standards of accuracy and efficiency. You will demonstrate an ability to work independently, and with the team, to agreed timelines.

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake medical photography under the direction of the medical photographers and in accordance with local practice/policies.
  • Support the Medical Photography and Illustration department, with responsibility for image management within the Medical Image Management System (MIMS) and Job Management System (JMS) databases.
  • Deliver a service in line with the departmental and Trust guidelines, abiding by all consent, confidentiality, and legal guidelines.
  • Provide a photographic support service for non‑clinical activities undertaken by the Trust following national and local standards.
  • Support the multi‑skilling work within the department to ensure an efficient service is delivered in line with departmental service level agreements.

Education / Qualification

  • HND / NVQ level 4 / foundation degree in photography or relevant professional experience.

Education / Qualification

  • Evidence of self‑managed CPD and continued commitment to professional development.

Work Experience

  • General photographic and digital image management experience.
  • Experience of working in a Medical Photography & Illustration Department.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Excellent photographic skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and email) including the ability to liaise with multi‑disciplinary team and wider stakeholders.
  • Knowledge, and application, of appropriate legislation, guidelines and policies.
  • Excellent IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Photoshop etc) with a proven ability for accurate image management, data entry and data checking.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and within a team organising own work.
  • Experience of working in a Medical Photography & Illustration Department.

Personal Qualities

  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to manage own time and act as an effective team player.
  • Flexible approach to work patterns to meet the needs of the patients, clinics and department while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all members of multi‑disciplinary healthcare teams.

The successful applicant(s) will normally commence at the minimum of the scale unless they have previous NHS service at the same band. Progression through the scale is by annual increments.
