Are you an experienced Mental Health Support Worker or looking to start your NHS career? We are seeking compassionate individuals to join our supportive and friendly team at St Brelades, Alderney Hospital, Poole.

St Brelades is a Male Dementia ward which caters up to 17 mental health patients. You will provide assessment and treatment for older individuals with Dementia and Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia.

You will be motivated to make a real difference in the lives of people living with dementia, where passion, empathy, strong communication and excellent teamwork are essential personal qualities for this role. Whilst experience is desirable, it is not essential as full induction training will be provided with ongoing support from our experienced team. Further opportunities for career development are also available.

This post is a full‑time role. We would be flexible and consider part‑time applications (minimum of 22.5 hours).

Shift Patterns

  • Early – 07:00 – 15:00
  • Late – 13:00 – 21:00
  • Long Day – 07:00 – 21:00
  • Nights – 20:30 – 07:30 (enhanced pay)

Responsibilities

  • Attend training courses and participate in personal development training as identified by the line manager.
  • Report any complaints by young people, families and carers to the trained staff on duty.
  • Make accurate records of patient observations, including data entry to the RiO patient records computer system.
  • Perform other duties appropriate to the role which may be requested from time to time by the nurse in charge.

Requirements

  • Experience in mental health support is desirable but not essential.
  • Must undertake a Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression course and successfully complete all aspects of this course.
  • Employment requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service can present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.
