Healthcare Assistant – Same Day Emergency Care

Job Overview

A Healthcare Assistant (Band 3) supports patients in the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) setting, delivering basic patient care, transferring patients to and from scans, performing ECGs if trained, venepuncture and cannulation if trained, and maintaining a safe, clean, and comfortable environment. The role involves supporting patients within the department to ensure timely and efficient care. SDEC is a fast‑paced and dynamic working environment so clear communication within the team is essential.

Main Duties

• Record vital observations.
• Perform ECGs and venepuncture and cannulation.
• Assist with transferring patients to and from the radiology department.
• Provide hot drinks and sandwiches.
• Assist nursing staff with both clinical and administrative tasks under the supervision of a registered nurse.
• Maintain a safe and clean working environment following infection prevention procedures.
• Assist with admissions and discharges and handle basic enquiries.
• Manage workload effectively, collaborate within the team, and communicate sensitively with patients, families, and colleagues while adhering to Trust policies and professional standards.
