Role Description
The Optical Assistant role is a part-time, on-site position based in the United Kingdom. The Optical Assistant will support the optometrists and wider practice team by greeting patients, managing check-in, and maintaining accurate patient records. Daily tasks include assisting patients with frame selection, advising on lens options, taking basic measurements, and ensuring a positive and efficient customer experience. The role also involves handling telephone and in-person inquiries, scheduling appointments, processing payments, and managing orders and collections. The Optical Assistant will help maintain a clean, well‑organized practice environment and may support basic pre‑screening tests under appropriate guidance and training.
Qualifications
- Strong Interpersonal Skills and a focus on Customer Satisfaction to create a welcoming, supportive experience for every patient.
- Excellent Communication and Customer Service skills, including clear, professional verbal and written communication.
- Basic understanding of Optometry concepts or a willingness to learn and apply optical product knowledge (frames, lenses, coatings).
- Previous experience in a healthcare, retail, or optical setting is beneficial but not essential.
- Strong attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy clinical environment.
- Comfort with using practice management or booking systems and handling payments (training can be provided).
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team and maintain professionalism with patients and colleagues at all times.
