WorkwithSchools is recruiting a SENCO for a local primary school north‑west of York, starting as soon as possible, with a permanent position from September 2026.

Responsibilities include overall responsibility for determining the strategic development of SEND policy and provision in the school, and day‑to‑day coordination of SEND provision to support individual pupils. The role will be part‑time (two days per week) at the outset.

Qualifications, skills and experience

  • A degree in a relevant subject.
  • QTS.
  • At least two years of teaching in a primary school.
  • At least 12 months experience as a school SENCO or assistant SENCO.
  • National Award in Special Educational Needs Coordination.
  • Experience working with pupils with SEND and emotional and behavioural difficulties.
  • Work alongside an SLT to develop curriculum and learning activities.
  • Coordinating provision for children with SEND.
  • Sound knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and its application.
  • Experience of behaviour management techniques for groups and individuals with SEND.
  • Understanding of principles of school improvement.
  • Experience utilising and analysing effective assessment systems and maintaining pupil records.
