Job Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Occupational Therapy team within the Adult Learning Disabilities Service. We are a specialist Occupational Therapy Team working across Edinburgh and West Lothian, committed to improving the quality of life and outcomes for our patients. The primary base/location for this post will be within our West Lothian CLDT. OT’s work with adults with a learning disability whose complex needs mean they cannot access mainstream services. Caseloads may include patients with communication difficulties, dementia, mental health needs, profound and multiple learning disabilities, autism and behaviours which can be challenging.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide assessment and intervention for adults with learning disabilities, including standardised OT assessment (AMPS and MOHO) and assessments informed by complementary theoretical frameworks such as Sensory Integration and Positive Behaviour Support.
- Promote occupational performance through skills and engagement, equipment and adaptation, training and support for patients, care staff teams and families.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary team colleagues, including social work, speech and language therapy, physiotherapy, nursing, dietetics, psychology and psychiatry to provide effective joined‑up assessment and intervention.
- Support and develop specialist skills in the learning disabilities field, including training, supervision and professional development.
- Initially work with the North‑West Edinburgh Community Learning Disabilities Team and one other team to be confirmed.
Qualifications and Requirements
You must hold a degree in Occupational Therapy and be registered with HCPC as an Occupational Therapist. Applicants who have transferable skills into learning disabilities will be supported to develop to the required level in this speciality. This is a part‑time post, and the salary will be pro‑rata. The post holder must have a PVG Scheme membership/record. If the candidate is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (child and/or adult), an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before beginning in post.
Legal and Administrative Requirements
To work in the United Kingdom, individuals must have the relevant permission to work in the country. This permission is, without exception, granted by the UK Visa and Immigration Service. Please note that due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025 this post may require a different level of criminal records check than is currently required. If the post is assessed as a regulated role, the appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. Any changes to the current requirements will be confirmed by the Hiring Manager or Recruitment Team.
