Pathway Coordinator (Medical Secretary)
An opportunity has arisen at the Royal Derby Hospital within the Department of Medicine for the Elderly for a full‑time (37.5 hours per week) Pathway Coordinator/Medical Secretary to join our secretarial team.
You will be part of an administrative team providing an efficient and professional medical secretarial service within an established team of clinicians.
The role requires enthusiasm, motivation, excellent communication and problem‑solving skills, high levels of tact and diplomacy, and the ability to prioritise and manage your own workload effectively.
Responsibilities
- Type clinical correspondence and manage clinic documentation.
- Schedule appointments, maintain diaries, and coordinate clinical meetings.
- Handle telephone queries and provide courteous front‑line support.
- Draft and circulate minutes and maintain accurate records.
- Support the implementation of the 18‑week RTT process and adhere to Trust Patient Access Policy.
- Use Word, Excel, internet, and email systems efficiently.
Core Qualifications and Skills
- Previous secretarial or administration experience.
- NVQ Level III Business and Administration or equivalent.
- Knowledge or familiarity with medical terminology.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other office equipment.
- Experience in minute taking (preferred but training can be provided).
Additional Requirements
- Good standard of English to O level / GCSE equivalent.
- Medical secretary experience.
- Planning, organising and prioritising own workload to meet deadlines.
- IT skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office packages, and advanced keyboarding abilities.
- Training or access to Trust systems such as Lorenzo and T-Pro.
- Strong computer proficiency and use of office equipment.
