Role
We are looking for a highly motivated and proactive individual to join our friendly and supportive pharmacy team in the delivery of clinical pharmacy services to a variety of clinical areas throughout Gartnavel General Hospital site. Although based at Gartnavel General Hospital, cross‑sector working in any North Sector site will be required. You will ensure the safe and effective supply of medicines to patients, coordinate and manage ward top‑up services and be responsible for recycling & redistributing non‑stock medicines that have been ordered for patients, helping to ensure that missed doses are avoided. You will reduce drug expenditure and potential subsequent waste. You will dispense medicines for patients being discharged from hospital and support nursing staff with good housekeeping of medicines. Working as part of a friendly and supportive pharmacy team, you will contribute to the safe and effective delivery of medicines across hospital wards and departments. This is a varied, hands‑on role where no two days are the same, offering excellent opportunities to develop your skills within a busy healthcare environment.
This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS). NHSGGC is unable to provide a COS.
Duration, Location and Working Pattern
- Gartnavel General Hospital
- Shift pattern to be agreed; working 22 hours per week, including participation in public holidays and weekend working
- Salary is pro‑rata for part‑time hours
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver ward and department top‑up services, ensuring medicines are supplied accurately and efficiently to support patient care
- Dispense inpatient, outpatient and clinical trial prescriptions following training and standard operating procedures
- Receive, store and manage medicines stock, maintaining accurate records and supporting stock rotation and control
- Process requisitions, pick, pack and distribute medicines safely across wards and departments
- Communicate effectively with pharmacy colleagues, ward staff, patients and suppliers to resolve queries and support service delivery
- Maintain high standards of accuracy, cleanliness and organisation within dispensary and ward environments
- Support audits, record keeping and adherence to policies, procedures and legislation relating to medicines management
Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and Experience Required
- Good general education at National 5 or Standard Grade level or equivalent
- Experience in a healthcare, pharmacy or customer‑facing role is desirable
- Willingness to work towards relevant Pharmacy Services SVQ qualifications
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office and ability to learn pharmacy systems
- Ability to organise workload, prioritise tasks and work effectively under pressure
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a patient‑centred approach
- Understanding of health and safety, manual handling and safe working practices or willingness to learn
