Vehicle Engine Rebuilder – South Gloucester
Hours: 45‑hour week between the business’s opening hours of 7:00am–5:00pm, with a 30‑minute lunch and two 15‑minute tea breaks.

Our client, an independent automotive workshop located in South Gloucester and specialising in the restoration and repair of classic vehicles, is looking to recruit an Engine Rebuilder to join their business.
Responsibilities
- Strip, assess, and fully build car engines, from pre‑war vintages to modern classics.
- Diagnose, report in detail and rectify faults.
- Calculate cam/ignition timing and compression ratios, etc.
- Read and interpret technical drawings.
- Keep meticulous build notes and records.
- Use specialist equipment to measure and inspect components.
- Attend and support with dynamometer and rolling road testing.
You will have strong knowledge of carburetors and magneto/coil ignition systems, sound mechanical knowledge gained through hands‑on experience, can project manage own work load to achieve deadlines, be able to produce high‑quality work in a busy workshop environment, have a passionate approach to the motor trade, and be motivated to work as a team to provide a profitable and enjoyable working environment.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience building automotive engines, preferably from the classic car or motorsport industry.
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair is highly desirable, but candidates with no qualifications are also considered if they meet the experience requirement.
Requirements
- UK driving licence with minimal points.
- Own basic tool kit (specialist tools will be provided).
- Live within a 30‑45 minute radius of South Gloucester (candidates located in North Bristol, Stroud, Cirencester, Gloucester, or Cheltenham are ideal).
Salary: Starting salary between £35,000 and £55,000 per annum (negotiable pending experience).
Leave: 20 days of annual leave, plus the 8 bank holidays.
