The Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Rolling Stock Mechanical Fitter to join a leading rail organisation based in South London.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands‑on mechanical professional to work on the maintenance, overhaul and modification of rolling stock vehicles, playing a key role in ensuring fleet reliability, safety and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned and corrective mechanical maintenance activities on rolling stock.
- Diagnose and rectify mechanical faults efficiently and safely.
- Undertake component replacement, overhaul and refurbishment work.
- Perform inspections in line with maintenance procedures and standards.
- Complete all maintenance documentation accurately and on time.
- Support fleet modification and improvement programmes.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with safety, quality and engineering standards.
- Work collaboratively with engineering, production and operational teams.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Previous experience working as a Mechanical Fitter, Rolling Stock Technician or similar engineering position.
- Strong mechanical fault‑finding and repair skills.
- Experience working within rail, heavy engineering, manufacturing, military, automotive or a comparable engineering environment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- A proactive approach to safety and quality.
- Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.
- The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Previous rolling stock maintenance experience.
- NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, Apprenticeship or equivalent engineering qualification.
- Experience working within a depot, workshop or fleet maintenance environment.
