Job Overview

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Mechanical Craftsperson to join our Estates Operational Team. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a mechanical bias and experience in a maintenance environment to contribute to the delivery of a high-quality estates service within a busy healthcare setting.

The successful candidate will support the effective maintenance and operation of essential building services, including water, heating, steam, and HVAC systems. A good understanding of Estates Maintenance is essential, and experience within a healthcare environment, along with knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS), would be advantageous.

You will be a proactive and reliable team player with excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, and a willingness to develop new skills. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively, often without direct supervision, is key to succeeding in this role.

Responsibilities

  • To carry out inspections, tests, repairs, installations, as directed on trust property plant and infrastructure.
  • To undertake work as identified on works orders allocated to you completing the works docket legibly in accordance with the Estates procedure.
  • To report faults identified either when carrying out routine checks/ planned preventative Maintenance or during the normal working day. Using the estates reporting system 6200 to raise a Work Docket.
  • To undertake planned preventative maintenance checks and complete report sheets legibly as required, in accordance with trust procedures and policies.
  • To identify parts and or equipment required to carry out designated work and use Estates Stores system to obtain required items in accordance with Trust Standing Financial Instructions.
  • To investigate technical failures as directed and identify the permanent repair required, to ensure ongoing reliability and statutory compliance.
  • To assist other Estate Staff at all levels with technical works and technical problem solving where requested.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Appropriate Mechanical Apprenticeship/ Training/ Adequate level of technical knowledge.

Desirable Qualifications

  • ONC level education or GCSE qualifications in English or technical or scientific subjects.

Knowledge

  • Trade specific experience gained over 4+ years.

Desirable Knowledge

  • Experience of working in a hospital environment or similar.

Specific Skills

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Skill in chosen speciality. Able to work on own initiative as well as part of a team.

Desirable Skills

  • Able to demonstrate good communication skills and be able to give and receive verbal instructions.
