Job Overview
As a Water Operative in the Borders team, you will be on the front lines ensuring Scotland’s water is safely treated and delivered. You will work within the Treatment Operations Management System (TOMS) to monitor and maintain water quality at treatment works and pumping stations.
Key Responsibilities
- Calibrate and maintain monitoring equipment, filters, and tank levels.
- Record and analyse water quality data for parameters such as pH, chlorine, aluminium and phosphate.
- Identify and report any anomalies, ensuring high standards of quality and compliance with legal requirements.
- Conduct risk assessments and uphold health and safety protocols across the plant, reservoirs and dams.
- Take part in the standby rota for out‑of‑hours coverage.
- Assist with regular inspections and maintenance of plants and associated infrastructure.
Qualifications and Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Confidence working independently and with site colleagues.
- Proficiency with new computer systems and willingness to learn.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a factual approach to recording.
- Ability to spot trends and solve problems on your own initiative.
- Valid driving licence (the van will be provided).
- Nice‑to‑have: knowledge of water treatment processes, distribution systems or mechanical maintenance experience.

Compensation
This role is a Grade4 with a starting salary of £31,640. Performance‑driven pay progression allows progression to a maximum of £36,460.
