Plant / Machine Operator
Location: Across London and surrounding areas

Role:
We are hiring on behalf of our clients, who include major civil engineering firms, groundwork specialist subcontractors, and main construction contractors. Because the machinery required varies heavily from site to site, we are looking for reliable, certified Plant / Machine Operators capable of maneuvering heavy machinery safely and efficiently under various site conditions.
Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently operate specific heavy plant machinery as required by the site.
- Perform daily pre-start safety checks, routine maintenance, and equipment inspections on the machinery, reporting any defects immediately.
- Work in close coordination with site managers, groundworkers, and slinger/signallers to move materials, excavate trenches, or level ground accurately.
- Assist with general site activities when the machinery is not actively in use, ensuring productive support for the team.
- Maintain a clean, hazard-free working area, ensure safe exclusion zones around active plant, and strictly adhere to all site health and safety guidelines, RAMS, and protective equipment regulations.
Types of Machinery Covered
We regularly recruit for operators across a wide range of plant and machinery, including but not limited to:
- Excavators: 360° Excavators (tracked or wheeled) below and above 10 tonnes.
- Dumpers: Forward Tipping Dumpers and Articulated Dump Trucks (ADTs).
- Telehandlers: Telescopic Handlers / Forklifts for lifting and moving materials at height.
- Ride-on Rollers: For compaction and ground preparation work.
- Access Machinery (MEWPs): Scissor lifts and cherry pickers.
Requirements
- Proven experience operating heavy plant machinery within commercial, residential, or infrastructure construction environments.
- Tickets & Cards: A valid CPCS or NPORS card with the relevant categories endorsed for the specific machinery you operate.
- Health & Safety: A full and thorough understanding of on-site health and safety regulations, including blind-spot awareness, safe lifting capacities, site speed limits, and proper use of PPE.
- Excellent spatial awareness, precision control, and the ability to clearly understand and act upon hand signals or radio instructions.
- A full UK driving license is highly advantageous for traveling to varied site locations.
