Company Description

McGeoch Technology Ltd. is a well‑established and expanding manufacturing company based in Birmingham. Due to the company’s projected growth, we are looking to recruit a Fabrication / Welder.

The Role

Reporting to the Production Manager as part of the Fabrication / Welder team, the successful applicant will prepare and weld mild steel, aluminium, and stainless steel. Material thicknesses range from 1mm to 10mm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fabricate mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminium components, ensuring the highest standards of finish and tolerances according to supplied information.
  • Hold BS EN ISO 15614-1 and BS EN ISO 15614-2 accreditations and be approved to weld butt, fillet, and plug.
  • Weld components and framework using TIG and MIG processes.
  • Align and fit parts according to specifications.
  • Grind, sand, polish and detail fabrications to required finish using hand and power tools to a high standard.
  • Measure and examine completed work to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Complete all fabrication tasks within agreed time frames.
  • Operate manual machine tools as required.
  • Maintain machines, tools, gauges, and equipment in a tidy, well‑maintained, and safe manner.
  • Ensure consumables supply (gas, welding wire, etc.) does not run out and inform the manager when stock levels fall.
  • Show flexibility to work in other departments and overtime as necessary to meet production goals.
  • Liaise with the design team and provide input on new designs.
  • Complete administrative tasks as required.
  • Work from drawings without supervision and report drawing errors.

Competencies & Qualifications

  • Proven knowledge and experience in industrial fabrication.
  • Significant industry exposure.
  • Current BS EN ISO 15614-1 and BS EN ISO 15614-2 accreditation.
  • Knowledge of metal finishing techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings, weld procedures, and work instructions.
  • Ability to recognise welding symbols and specifications.
  • Customer‑ and result‑focused, with integrity, and a proven team‑player.
